“i’m going to look in your box.”
“thanks for the heads-up.  i hate when people look in my box with no warning.”

on the one hand, i love my job and the people with whom i work.

but on the other hand, working at my current job has turned me into a child who giggles at every entendre, double or otherwise.  i can’t resist a that’s-what-she-said joke and am completely comfortable saying really inappropriate things.  which can lead to trouble when i’m not around my work friends.  because i always forget that other people can be offended by the jokes we make.

like right now i’m resisting really hard telling you all [all none of you] my favourite math joke.  it’s pretty much about statistics.  but i’m not going to write it down here.  because it’s not necessarily something that i want associated with me forever in the vast ether of the internet.  but it’s hilarious.  and also unbelievably offensive.  if you promise not to let it change your view of me, i’ll tell you in person.

but the thing is.  it’s not just me.  a friend of mine has said that when hanging out with non-work friends, repeating something we were joking about at work has horrified people.  though you can’t really call our joke inappropriate because basically no one cares.  so we have totally appropriate conversations in context.  just at any other workplace, we’d probably all be fired.  or written up or something.  for talking about boxes.  and the frequent jokes about this one cast member’s balls.  [they just can’t be contained.  haha.  the jokes.  and his balls.]

so it’s okay.  because we have apparently all lost our boundaries.  and when everyone is doing it, that makes it okay.  just like drugs and sex.  and jumping off bridges.

just say yes, right?
